Asia Pacific Network of Refugees (APNOR)
APNOR is a network of refugee-led groups established in 2018. APNOR’s objective is to build a sustainable and inclusive network for refugee-led organizations in the Asia Pacific region, to set the regional agenda for refugee policy that draws on the collective voice of lived experience to influence stakeholder and decision-making priorities, and to support the development of stronger national refugee-led structures that can influence national policy reform.

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Communication Officer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our organization’s communication strategies and initiatives. As a Communication Officer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our vision by developing and implementing strategic communication initiatives. Through your expertise and creativity, you will help elevate the stories, experiences, and aspirations of refugees within the region. Your communication efforts will bridge the gap between various stakeholders, fostering understanding, and promoting meaningful engagement.

Position Responsibilities

  • Collaborate closely with refugees and partner organizations to gather authentic stories and insights, portraying their experiences and contributions accurately and respectfully.
  • Create compelling and culturally sensitive content, including press releases, articles, social media posts, and multimedia materials, to amplify the voices of refugees and their initiatives.
  • Manage and maintain our organization’s digital presence, including websites, social media platforms, and newsletters, ensuring timely and engaging updates to foster community engagement.
  • Monitor and analyze communication efforts’ effectiveness, utilizing data-driven insights to refine strategies and measure the impact of our messaging.
  • Assist in crisis communication management, providing timely responses and ensuring accurate information dissemination during critical situations.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with media outlets, stakeholders, and relevant influencers to promote awareness of refugee-led initiatives and advocacy efforts.
  • General communication: Assist APNOR’s leadership in effective communication
  • implementation of APNOR’s communications strategies.
  • Assist with other communications duties as determined by the Executive Director.

Position Selection Criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a communication or public relations role, preferably within the nonprofit or humanitarian sector.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to convey complex issues in an accessible manner.
  • Proficiency in managing various communication platforms, including social media, content management systems, and email marketing tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and individuals, displaying cultural sensitivity and empathy.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Passion for social impact and a genuine commitment to promoting the rights and well-being of refugees.
  • Knowledge of refugee-related issues, migration dynamics, and humanitarian contexts is an advantage.
